The Tax Impact of Social Change
Reflecting on the past year's news and events you cannot help but feel we have experienced some very significant social changes. Two events that come to mind are the tortured implementation of mandated health insurance under the Affordable Care Act and the nullification of DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act).
Because our system of taxation is so intertwined with policy making, it should be no surprise that these changes have a tax impact for many of us.
In the following pages we will try to explain in general terms how these new policies will affect your tax filings and also touch on the usual categories for our annual tax update, including a section on our ever-changing world of electronic communication and privacy concerns.
